In Kenya

We made it to Kenya yesterday afternoon (Thursday)... all went well with those travels. Our hotel here is very nice! We have carpet here, so it has been fun to see Lindy crawl!

My first impression of Nairobi was that it felt dirty... I guess the area between our hotel and the airport is not a nice part of Nairobi. The traffic is insane! Way worse here than in Kigali! We were going to try to have an Embassy appointment this afternoon, but they close early on Fridays, so we went to an open market area.... that was pretty crazy, too! Tons of people.. made me a little nervous to keep an eye on Evelyn, our bags on our shoulders, and all the while carrying Lindy in the ergo. I did buy a few cute things, though. Fun!Fun!

We had our medical appointment this morning; that went very well. Because Lindy is under 2 years old, she did not have to have a TB test done, so we were able to complete the appt. and have the results all done this morning. The doctor felt that she looked very healthy, she did a physical exam only, no blood draws! Thank goodness! We only want to have to do that once! We'll do that in the states when we are home! We had also signed a vaccination waiver affadavit so that they would not give any vaccinations here in Kenya, so we didn't have to do any of that either. (We also had our doctor write a letter stating that he was planning on examining her upon her arrival and would be giving any needed vaccinations at that time, based on need.)

I'll post a new picture in a bit... I guess we are heading to dinner right now. We are looking forward to a good relaxing weekend! we have no appointments until Wednesday! :-)

She's crawling, too!! Yipee!! So glad the trip to Kenya went well. I saw the video of the plane landing and the seat belts getting unfastened. Where was the narration? That whistle just wasn't enough!! Love, Grandma Carola
P.S. Tell Evie I missed her Wednesday!!

So good to hear all this good news... my thoughts today were how Lindy probably had never been out of the orphanage, never ridden in a car, never eaten at a restaurant, never seen masses of people... on and on and on... bless her little soul. I am sure the comfort of your ergo helped.

I told you Kenya would be quite different from Rwanda... now you see. You'll get more used to the crowds the longer you stay. I hope you get out to see the Game Parks... Evelyn must see her wildebeest! Miss her so much!

Love,

Mom

Your email reminds me of my many trips to Kenya. 7 1/2 million people. It was the first time I was every a minority. Hey, Nakuru National Park is a little over an hour away. It is not a natural park, but is very nice. When Karen Blitzen (played by Myrl Streep) in out of Africa flew over a lake of Flamingo's it was in Nakuru National Park. Would be nice if you could go. Might be a lot for Lindy. You are not far from the Karn Blitzen Home outside Nairobi. A very beautiful place and much different from Nairobi. Be careful, it is a dangerous place. Wish I had arranged for my friend and the person Grandpa Keith and I spent inauguration night with in 2002 to meet you. He would have done it and he could have given you a wonderful time. What is the name of your hotel?

On an different note, cannot begin to express how happy I am for the three of you and look forward to meeting this really, really special child on July 6. You are in our prayers.

What is the name of the hotel so we can google it?
It sounds like you can start relaxing a bit and enjoying the fact that you are in Africa! Yippee!

Love you, Love you. We have the inflatable turtle ready for Lindy to swim in the pool!

We are at Nairobi Safari Club Hotel... Dan and I were just wondering what we should do on Monday.. maybe tour the Karen Blitzen Home! We have a driver that is great, speaks Swahili and English.. we could have him take us there. On Tuesday we are driving out in the 'country' of Kenya... two hours out of Nairobi. In hopes of seeing a wildebeest for Evelyn's sake! :) We have been told to expect to see Giraffe, and elephants... we'll see what happens!

You have been on our minds so much, we are prayerful and excited! Our Rwandan and Burundian friends are supporting you in prayer. They pass their thanks to you for adopting one of their own, they truly understand the critical need to have the orphans placed into safe and loving arms! Bless you.
